Some currencies are really successful. In Switzerland, the WIR, a currency for professionals created in 1934, is used by more than 60,000 companies (16% of Swiss businesses). In Bavaria (Germany), the Chiemgauer is the leading European local currency and has enabled more than 7 million Euros in transactions in 2013, ten years after its creation.
In Brazil, where hundreds of local currencies have been created since 2002, local economic activity has been revived, which has helped revitalize certain favela districts.
